Southern California Drought

For the past 3 years California has been in a severe drought.  Last winter we only got 58% of our normal rainfall!  Southern California gets an average of around 15 inches per year.  Last year in Los Angeles, only 4.6 inches of rain fell.  The mountains tend to get a little more.  The average rainfall in Lake Arrowhead, CA is 40 inches per year.  They get 46.4 inches of snow a year.

95% of our country's fresh avocados come from California, and 90% of tomatoes come from California.  Due to the California drought the price of avocados raised 8% and the price of steak has raised 11%.

More dry canyon in California.

This year the southern California is predicted to be slightly better than the last 3 years.  Some predict the drought will last 15 more years, others think this year the drought will end this year due to a late El Nino.

I think judging by the weather we have had recently, and judging by the farmers almanac that this year will not be an El Nino, but we will get much closer to average rainfall and slightly cooler temperatures.

Hopefully this year will be the last year we see below average rainfall in southern California.
