Wandering Albatross


    The wandering albatross is known for its large wingspan. It can spread its wings over 11 feet!  There have been some sightings up to 17 feet.  They are normally seen as white, gray or black.  They mainly live off of fish and squid.

    They spend most of their life flying.  They can fly up to 10,000 miles without landing.  They weigh over 25 pounds!  There lifespan typically lasts up to 60 years.  They can sometimes fly over 6,000 miles without flapping there wings.  They can fly 70 miles per hour.

  There are several threats to this bird.  Sometimes they see pieces of plastic and trash in the ocean and feed it to their young causing them to choke and die.  There are 20,100 wandering albatrosses left.  Their population is constantly decreasing.  They live in Australia, New Zealand, South America, and some other Antarctic islands.  The wandering albatross is one of the most amazing birds of all.
